Description

The Machrie Links opened in 1891 to great acclaim and at that time and for many years was regarded as one of the best and most challenging golf courses in Scotland.

As time passed some golfers grew to enjoy it because it was iconic and old fashioned, but for others it became less popular due to its mix of blind holes and penal rough and this together with the developments in modern golf equipment meant that it had lost its place amongst Scotland’s best golf courses.

Machrie Hotel and golf course were purchased by Gavyn Davies and his wife Baroness Sue Nye in 2011.

A major programme of investment in both the hotel and the golf course followed. The redesign of the golf course has produced a golf course fit for the 21st century.

It is a blend of the old and the new and it is a delight to play.

This is the story of the Machrie Links.
